POLICE investigating an accident which left a Burnley teenager fighting for his life have renewed an appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Daniel Wimbles, 16, was injured when he was "in collision with" a blue Fiat Punto as he walked from Lindsay Park on to Brownside Road in Worsthorne.

His devastated family were keeping a constant bedside vigil at Hope Hospital, Salford, where the youngster was taken after suffering serious head injuries in the collision on Monday night.

Daniel was last night said to be in a poorly but stable condition.

The youngster, of the Brunshaw Avenue area, was on his own at the time of the accident. The 17-year-old driver has been questioned in relation to the matter.

Sergeant Martin Bishop, of Colne's Road Policing Unit, said: "There has been no change in the youngster's condition. His family have been at his bedside keeping a vigil.

"We have spoken to witnesses at the scene after the accident as part of the investigation.

"However we would encourage anybody who saw anything and has not yet contacted the police to get in touch."
