IT'S nerve-racking enough to be playing your first ever gig in public, especially when you're just 15.

But last night Adam Barton had the added pressure of knowing that while he was sat behind his drum kit as part of the tribute band The Complete Jam, his dad Pete was up on stage with him playing bass.

For Adam, last night's show at the Key Street Music Bar in Clitheroe was his first live performance.

For Pete it was just another day at the office - since 1992 he has been bass player with the Animals and Friends, regularly touring the world and playing in front of thousands of fans.

"I just got up there to help Adam out," said Pete, from Clitheroe.

Adam, a pupil at St Augustine's High School, Billington, only took up the drums eight months ago.

"My dad had a kit lying around in the studio and I just had a go and liked it," he said.

"I had a couple of lessons but didn't get on too well with them so I've just taught myself since then."

Said Pete: "Adam has great potential as a drummer and I'm not just saying that because he's my son."

The last time Pete, who has previously played with Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders, played live in East Lancashire was with The Animals and Friends at the Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival in Colne over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The line-up included Mickey Gallagher and John Steel, both members of the Animals in the Sixties when the band had huge hits with songs such as House of the Rising Sun.

On Wednesday Pete flies out to Paris and this will be followed by a one-off gig in Moscow and then a tour in Norway.

For Adam, it will be back to the homework and his training as a member of the Blackburn Rovers Academy where he is a promising central midfielder.
