AN angry dad assaulted the mother of his child in a row over belongings after she told him it was over and he could not see his son, a court was told.

Jason John Cowley, 32, got hold of Wendy McCullough by the ears, pinned her against a car, threw her mobile telephone on the floor and kicked a pub door.

Miss McCullough, who had been in the pub with friends, broke free and ran into the premises, Burnley magistrates heard.

Cowley, of Oxford Road, Nelson, admitted assault and two counts of damage and was ordered to pay a total of £405 in fines, compensation and costs.

John Rusius, defending, said Cowley had wanted belongings returned and Miss McCullough had refused.

He constantly called, she refused to answer and so he decided to go and talk to her face to face.

She then announced he would not be able to see his son, that deeply upset him and they argued.

The solicitor claimed Miss McCullough threw her phone at the defendant, was ranting and raving and he got hold of her head to calm her down.

He kicked at the pub door in frustration after she went back in and then rang the police and told them he had caused damage.
