A CANCER-stricken bride-to-be has brought forward her wedding after doctors told her she had just months to live.

Primary school teacher Kathy Nutter, 31, and her fiancé Carl Morris, 40, originally set a date for April 10.

But after Kathy’s cancer worsened the Hapton couple rearranged their big day for February 12.

And despite Kathy currently having to use a wheelchair, the pair have not given up hope that she will be able to walk down the aisle and have the wedding of her dreams.

Carl said: “It was just before Christmas Eve we got the news but we still managed to have a good Christmas. Kathy has been very brave.

“The idea with bringing the wedding forward is that Kathy had some radiotherapy this week and it is the last radiotherapy she can have.

“The doctors told her that it will slow the cancer right down. She is in a wheelchair at the moment but we are hoping by then she will be a little bit better and we will have a window of time where hopefully she will be able to walk down the aisle.”

Kathy, who teaches maths to underachieving students at St John Southworth Primary School, Nelson, defeated cervical cancer last year.

The former Habergham High School pupil was told she would never be able to have children, but she was relieved that the cancer had gone into remission.

However, she was then affected by a secondary cancer in her leg, which has spread to her kidneys, stomach, bladder and spine.

The couple, of Bridgefield Street, will be married at Bolton School in Bolton before holding a reception at Accrington Town Hall.

They have been struggling to make ends meet ahead of the occasion, so three of Kathy’s friends, Leah Massey, 27, Yvette Jameson, 28, and Sam Simpson, 23, organised a fundraising night at the Railway Inn, Hapton in December, and a bag pack at Sainsbury’s in Burnley, which raised £2,288.

Leah, who will be Kathy’s bridesmaid, said they were looking for help with the wedding dress, catering, flowers and tableware.

She said: “It’s Kathy’s last wish to get married to Carl.

“We need to raise around another £3,000 because whatever Kathy and Carl had in their funds they have had to use while Kathy has not been able to work.”
