STEVE Kean can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel after admitting wondering at times whether his injury list was ever going to come to an end.

Ahead of this afternoon’s Premier League visit of Fulham, Kean will welcome back a number of experienced players to his squad as Rovers look to fire their way out of the relegation zone.

Ryan Nelsen, Vince Grella, Gael Givet, Scott Dann, Junior Hoilett, Chris Samba, Martin Olsson and Michel Salgado have all been missing for spells this season but, with the majority on their way back, Kean believes results will now follow.

A lack of experienced players has seen Rovers name their youngest Premier League team in history in recent weeks and, while he has been impressed with the ‘kids’’ contribution, he knows there is no substitute for experience.

He said: “Things are looking much better in terms of injuries. Paul Robinson is back in full training, Martin Olsson has got through a full week of training, Scott Dann is back in training albeit with limitations because of his groin injury.

“We have Junior Hoilett back in full training but it has been a good week in that respect.

“It is a boost because you look back at previous weeks and daunting fixtures we have had and you look at some of the senior players not available. You go in my office and the list just went on and on.

“We will get to the position where only two players are not back in training ahead of this game. Only Ryan Nelsen and Vince Grella. Everyone else is back in some shape or form.

“Some have limitations, like Scott Dann who is not allowed contact yet, but at least he is out there.”

The under fire Rovers boss also believes a number of his summer signings have shown increasing signs of settling to the pace of the Premier League.

Serbian Radosav Petrovic, Scot David Goodwillie and Montenegrin Simon Vukcevic have all taken time to make an impact in Rovers’ first team, but Kean is confident they are getting there.

Goodwillie scored his second goal in as many games in last weekend’s defeat while Petrovic and Vukcevic have played more of a role in recent weeks.

He said: “I think David has done really well. He was making some good runs at Newcastle and was causing a problem for Williamson and Coloccini with his clever runs. I am sure they would tell you he is a difficult character to get hold of.

“David will always get you goals if he gets the service.

“I think some of the foreign lads we brought in are starting to come into their own. Petrovic is getting better and better game by game.

“His mobility is getting better and is very much like Steven Nzonzi when he first came to the club. It takes a bit of time to get used to the intensity. I think he is doing that.

“Simon Vukcevic gives us something different. He gives us a bit of penetration, can take people on.”

Meanwhile Kean has echoed David Dunn’s call for a united Ewood Park this afternoon, as he looks for a repeat of the atmosphere generated at Rovers’s last home game - a 2-1 defeat to Stoke.

The Rovers boss admitted his side failed to deliver that afternoon but has called upon them to respond this time around to help the club out of the drop zone.

He said: “The fans have been excellent in recent times. I can only take my hat off to them. I thought they were excellent in the last home game, the travelling fans at Newcastle, Old Trafford and Anfield were excellent.

“You look at the age of the side and it helps the young guys especially to feel the energy and positive vibe from the fans towards them when they are on the ball.

“Let’s switch that right round and get a bit of intimidation when Fulham get on the ball like they did when Stoke got on the ball. I thought they were tremendous.

“We could get out of the relegation zone if we win the game and that is a massive lift for everyone. It is a massive incentive.

“I was really disappointed with the way we played in the first half against Stoke, especially with the great atmosphere the fans came with. I felt as though that was pre meditated, it was positive, it was vibrant and we never delivered for them.

“The second half we were better and probably deserved a point but it was a real big opportunity missed and we don’t want to miss another opportunity again.”
