MOTORISTS are being urged to take care after the Highway Agency issued a warning over high winds.

An ‘amber alert’ is in place for high-sided vehicles, caravans and motorbikes which are advised to take extra care when travelling to due the increased risk of vehicles being blown over.

The Highways Agency, which is responsible for motorways and other major roads in England, is working closely with the Met Office, it said.

A spokesman said: “Drivers are advised to plan for their journey before they set out, checking the forecast and road conditions and to leave extra time if travel conditions are poor, and to delay their journey if the weather becomes severe.”
