A NEWLYWED celebrating his bride's visa was caught over the limit after police saw him coming out of a pub.
Burnley magistrates heard how Lawrence Collett, 61, was followed by officers who smelled alcohol on his breath.
He gave a positive roadside breath test and at the police station gave two tests revealing 58 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath -- the legal limit is 35.
Collett, of Cobden Street, Nelson, admitted driving with excess alcohol.
He was fined £250, with £50 costs and banned for 12 months.
The bench told the defendant, who is retired, they believed he had simply been negligent.
The court was told Collett was seen leaving the Clayton Arms in Nelson. Police followed him down Manchester Road.
David Lawson, defending, said Collett's court appearance was a source of great shame and embarrassment to him.
He drove a relatively short distance.
The defendant had recently married, his new wife was Chinese and her visa application had been approved. Collett had been out celebrating and instead of having one drink, had "one or two".
