PENSIONERS who have not yet received their Winter Fuel Payment should wait until January before contacting the government.

That’s the advice of the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) which has issued over 12,000,000 tax-free payments this year, but not all at the same time.

A DWP spokesman said: “Most payments are made between November and December 2011. Over 12,000,000 payments are being made during this time.

"It’s not possible to be more detailed about when individuals will receive their Winter Fuel Payment.

“They will receive a notification letter and this will give a more specific estimated payment date.

“Due to how payments are made, people could receive your payment at a different time to someone in their household or living near to them.”

Those eligible have been asked not to contact the government unless it has not been received by January 2012.
