HARDY community campaigners in Burnley are set to put their best feet forward for Clarets legend Gary Parkinson.
Staff and volunteers from Brunshaw Action Group have announced they will be undertaking a 76-mile sponsored walk in aid of the stricken right-back.
Gary suffered a major stroke more than a year ago and now suffers from ‘locked-in syndrome’, which leaves him only able to communicate by blinking.
The walkers will set off from their Brunshaw Avenue headquarters in the early hours of Saturday, April 21, to arrive before Clarets play Blackpool.
And on the final whistle they are planning to undertake the return leg.
All money raised on the day will be split between the footballer’s appeal fund and the action group’s coffers.
Gary is fondly remembered for scoring the winning goal in Burnley’s Division Two play-off final versus Stockport in 1994.
People wishing to pledge support can visit the group’s website – www.brunshawactiongroup.com – to download a sponsorship form.
