Beside an ancient crossing of Pendle Water, this group of attractive Listed Grade II farm buildings and walled garden is the perfect base from which to explore the Pendle area.

The old farmhouse, known as Park Hill has been restored using traditional building skills to provide visitors with an insight of how the house has been developed and adapted from the 1400s.

Exhibitions include the story of the farmhouse, the story of the Pendle Witches, the history of the Bannister family, including Sir Roger Bannister the first man to break the four-minute mile, and the Swinglehursts, who occupied part of the the house from the late 18th century and built the Georgian extension.

There is also Pendle Arts Gallery a shop, tearoom and tourist information centre on site.

WHERE: The centre is signposted off Gisburn Road, the main road through Barrowford, turn right at its junction with Colne Road (opposite the George and Dragon pub) and the car park is over the bridge on the left and centre is on the right.

WHEN: Open daily 10am to 5pm. Museum and gallery 11am-4pm, Higherford Mill by appointment.

ADMISSION: There is a small charge to the museum and walled garden.
