DETECTIVES are hunting a despicable' thug who robbed an East Lancashire pensioner in his own home during a daylight raid.

Police said the victim, in his 90s, was left extremely shaken by the incident which happened at his house in Church Square, Worsthorne on Tuesday afternoon.

The pensioner, who has not been named by police, was in the hallway of his home at about 2.20pm.

He tried to walk through to the front room but was stopped by the intruder holding the door shut.

The robber then opened the door and grabbed him in a bear hug.

He searched his pockets and took a wallet before fleeing the house.

Police said the victim was left shaken, but unhurt.

They are now appealing for witnesses as part of their hunt for the offender.

Det Sgt Ian Proctor, of Burnley CID, said: "This was a very nasty incident which has left the elderly victim very shaken and shocked, though fortunately unhurt physically.

"I would appeal for any witnesses who may have seen anybody acting suspiciously in the area or any vehicles they did not recognise to get in touch with us so we can catch this offender as quickly as possible."

The robber is described as white, in his 30s, at least six ft, heavy build, wearing a dark baseball cap.
