WE'RE giving you more warning than usual about this gig, on September 23, because it's for such a good cause -- so no excuses about not having time to buy a ticket.
On Saturday night, Blackburn's Cellar Bar will be ringing out to the sound of punk and metal music - and all for a worthy cause.
An article in the Lancashire Telegraph inspired owners of Blackburn-based label Noize Anoize Music Julie Windle and Andy Foulds to organise a fund raising gig for the cash-strapped Blackburn with Darwen Women's Aid refuge.
Some of the artists confirmed to appear are Sick 56, Lowlife UK, Neanderthal, Eastfield, Paul Carter, Stillborn, UFX, Boredom, The Exorsisters, Crouch Mog, Predator, Side Show Sirens, Three One Fives, Doubting Thomas, Collusion, Ambush UK, The Scabs, James (Guilty Pleasures acoustic), C.S.O.D and Swallow.
Andy said: "The response has been fantastic with bands from as far afield as Wales, Cumbria and the Midlands offering to come up and play for free, as well as most of the local punk and metal bands."
Some of the more established names in the Alternative scene like Goldblade, UK Subs and 3CR have sent messages apologising because they already have commitments on the day but have pledged to donate merchandise and memorabilia which will be raffled on the day of the gig.
Julie added: "With the offers of help we could have run two or three days."
Concert for Darwen Women's Aid Refuge, Saturday, September 23, Cellar Bar, King Street, Blackburn 2pm. Tickets £3.50 (advance), £5 on the door. Advance tickets from the Record Exchange, Blackburn or Andy on 07868 736313.
