VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help provide an invaluable service to women by promoting positive health through personal empowerment and development.

The Women's Centre in Accrington is looking for new volunteers to help support the day to day running of the centre, giving a warm and friendly welcome to visitors, answering the telephone and dealing with queries.

Volunteers also help with public relations and fundraising activities and deliver services such as one-to-one counselling and individual and group learning support.

The Women's Centre was formed in 1985 to provide a service run by local women for local women. In doing so, volunteers develop their skills and gain valuable work experience.

They receive ongoing training, supervision and support for their personal and professional development.

When they come to apply for employment or training courses, this means the centre can provide a reference, detailing their achievements and skills.

In addition to these benefits, volunteers can enjoy the satisfaction of helping to provide a valuable service to other women, and make new friends.

The next training course for volunteers starts in October .

For more information either call in to the centre on Abbey Street or telephone 01254 871771 .
