THE founder of a sports merchandise company believes her business has gone from strength to strength since appearing in the TV programme Dragon’s Den.

Yasmin Hussain, director of Blackburn firm Tri-Namic Balls, went before the panel of famous investors during filming in May.

Her pitch was screened this week as part of the new series of the hit BBC show.

She told the business moguls why she launched her promotional novelty balls business and how she intended to grow it over the next two years.

The company sells and develops miniature football and rugby balls that can be emblazoned with a logo, a club crest or a national flag.

The ‘Tri-Namic’ name derives from their three functions as they can be used as an in-car or desktop accessory, as a promotional corporate gift, or simply for play.

The Dragons chose not to invest, but Hilary Devey was impressed with the 5,500 units Yasmin had already sold.

She said: “Carry on for the Olympics, because I think you will make a few bob there, but there is no longeivity in the business and for that reason I’ve got to say I’m sorry, I’m out.”

Yasmin, 29, said she left the Den feeling “very positive”.

She said: “Pitching to the Dragons was quite challenging.

“Although I didn’t secure the £65,000 investment I had pitched for, the Dragons gave me some great feedback and encouragement.

“They were unanimous in congratulating me for my personal and business success and there was a definite acknowledgment that the company had done well in its first year.”

Since appearing in the Den, the company has introduced several new products, including cricket and tennis balls.

Having already struck a deal with Burnley Football Club and Bolton Wanderers, which sells her products through its online and official club stores, Yasmin said she was now closing deals with other Premiership and Football League clubs.

She has also secured new suppliers who will distribute the products as stocking fillers for Christmas and sports memorabilia for Euro 2012 and the Olympics Games.
