A 20-year-old man has been killed in a car crash in the early hours of this morning in Lancashire, police said.
Stephen Bennett, from St Helens, Merseyside, was behind the wheel of a black Fiat Punto that lost control and spun off the motorway carriageway.
The incident happened at around 1am on the slip road as the M6 joins the M55 (Blackpool) north of Preston.
Mr Bennett suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two passengers in the car received minor injuries.
The road was closed while accident investigators carried out an examination of the scene.
Inspector Damian Kitchen, from the road policing unit at Lancashire Police, said: "I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and contact the police.
"The man's family have been notified of the news and we have specially trained officers supporting them through what is a very difficult time."
