POLICE have launched a crackdown on youths taking drugs and hurling abuse at passers-by at a motorway service area in Darwen.
Officers have stepped up high-visibility patrols at the junction four motorway service area near Redvers Road.
Detectives have also been working with local residents and community leaders in a bid to identify the offenders.
The matter was raised by concerned residents at a recent Sunnyhurst Police and Communities Together (PACT) meeting.
A police spokesman said: “We conducted regular patrols and worked with the services and residents to identify offenders.
“As a result, we have identified those responsible and they have been warned about their behaviour.
“They have been issued banning notices from the services and we will monitor any anti-social behaviour with a view to prosecution of specific offenders.”
Anyone with information should call Darwen Police on 01254 701777, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
