A woman in her eighties has been hit by a car and killed in Lancashire, police said.

Gwennie Dean, from Kirkham, was struck as she was crossing Poulton Street, Preston, at around 2pm on Monday, Lancashire Constabulary said.

The 87-year-old, originally from Yorkshire, was hit by a Nissan Micra and sustained serious injuries.

She was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital but died at 6am yesterday.

Police are now attempting to trace Ms Dean's relatives but so far they have been unsuccessful, they said.

They are appealing for any family members to contact the force immediately.

Sergeant Dave Hogarth said: "Sadly, as yet we haven't been able to trace any members of Mrs Dean's family and I would appeal to any family members to contact police.

"I am also keen to speak with anybody who may be aware of Gwennie's family history.

"An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing and I would still appeal for anybody who witnessed it to come forward."

Anybody with any information is asked to call police on 08451 25 35 45 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
