ONE of Lancashire’s longest established children’s charities is celebrating after receiving a £39,200 grant.
Child Action Northwest in Wilpshire was given the award by the Heritage Lottery Fund to carry out a community project to preserve, digitise and catalogue the charity’s archives.
Lancashire Record Office were asked to review documentation that is stored in the basement in Wilpshire and found pieces such as family photographs and personal records dating back to the first orphan, Adolphus Curran, at the then Blackburn Orphanage.
Head of Heritage Lottery Fund in the North West Sara Hilton said: “Conserving the story of the orphanage and the individuals associated with it and making this information widely available is important for the local community.”
