JACK STRAW has secured a parliamentary debate on his calls for a reform of the motor insurance industry.
The Blackburn MP and former justice secretary said laws must be changed to combat fears that insurers are getting paid for referring clients' details to personal injury lawyers without permission.
He has gained support from Prime Minister David Cameron who granted a ‘10 minute rule bill’ to be heard in September.
Mr Cameron said: “Mr Straw makes a very good point about the problem of referral fees that are driving up the cost of insurance.
“There was a report to the Government calling for referral fees to be banned. I am very sympathetic to this.”
Mr Straw said he is acting on the concerns of constituents who face rising premiums.
And he is calling for the government to implement recommendations made last year by Lord Justice Jackson, who said such referral fees should be banned.
