COLLEGE bosses are bidding to make their own contribution towards a new £1million gateway into Burnley.

Work is underway to create a new parade along Princess Way, from junction 11 of the M65 into the town centre.

And now Burnley College is looking to get in on the act with proposals for a new video installation outside their £81million campus.

The video screen, which would show promotional material on behalf of the institution, would be mounted on a 2.4-metre high stand and be 1.4 metres wide. Another side of the project will see eight 12-metre high flagpoles erected, between the viaduct and Rectory Road roundabout.

College principal Hugh Bramwell has been in detailed talks with the borough and county councils over the moves.

The gateway will showcase the anticipated Burnley Knowledge Quarter, behind the college campus.

The Princess Way gateway will also feature a ‘Rain Bow Gate’ created by artist Tonkin Liu, the brains beind the town’s Singing Ringing Tree.

Demolition work has also just been completed on several properties in Rectory Road, ahead of the education park’s prospective arrival.

Several giant redwood trees have also been removed from the route to Thursby Gardens as part of the work.
