The Woodland Trust is urging East Lancs residents to speak out over the future protection of the area’s forests.
It follows the abandoned government consultation earlier this year on England’s publicly owned forests which proposed the transfer of 250,000 hectares of Forestry Commission land, such as the Forest of Bowland, into the hands of other owners.
Woodland Trust chief executive Sue Holden said: “We urge people to continue to come forward and set out what they believe should happen to our woodlands.
"The extensive woodland in this region highlight the benefits woodland can bring to communities and the local economy. We believe Government must commit to a target to increase our woodland cover.”
The UK has just 13 per cent of woodland compared to the European average of 44 per cent.
There is one more week of consultation. Visit www.woodland trust.org.uk/panel.
