TRADERS in one of Blackburn’s busiest shopping streets say they fear there will be a serious incident before they get their wish for extra security.

A second business in Whalley Range has been burgled just three days after the shop next door was raided.

Now renewed calls have been made for extra security after the latest break-in.

Anisha’s Collection fabric shop had the shutters forced open and window smashed between Sunday night and yesterday morning.

Hundreds of pounds in cash was stolen, along with charity boxes from the counter.

On Friday, Muntizar Patel’s Krystals jewellery shop, on the same row, was burgled and he called for cameras to improve safety, and help cut crime.

Sanah Kalu, 23, and her husband Ismail Kalu, 29, have been looking after the business while Ismail’s parents, the owners, are away.

Sanah said: “We are right next door to Mr Patel who had his shop broken into last week.

"I would agree with other businesses in this area.

"It is popular, busy and needs CCTV cameras to ensure the public’s safety, as well as to help protect the shops.”

Husband Ismail said: “I'm trying to pluck up the courage to tell my parents. They’ll be devastated.

"It’s a family-run business. We pay our rates and council tax and we’ve now lost hundreds of pounds in takings.

"We are one of many to be targeted. This is now a major complaint to the council for CCTV because it is becoming a regular occurrence.

“The shops here are staffed by women all day. What happens if my wife is in on her own and these people try it again?

"Police say they are now patrolling the area, but how many does it take to get a response?

Officers are investigating and will check the shop’s own CCTV camera.

A council spokesman said there was no immediate plans for CCTV in the area.
