AN 18-TONNE skip wagon overturned this morning shedding its load across a main road.
Scotland Road, Nelson, was closed at the roundabout form Reedyford Road near to junction 13 of the M65 following the accident around 7am.
Rubbish and recycling waste was strewn across the road and a lamppost was knocked down.
The driver escaped uninjured before police arrived at the scene.
Traffic backed up and police were diverting traffic left onto the Reedyford Road.
The council arrived on the scene to access the street lighting.
A recovery vehicle arrived on the scene to clear the wreckage and remove a dead cat from the carriageway.
The road is expected to open around 8.30am.
