A 36-year-old cyclist has been seriously injured in Haslingden, police say.

The man, from Helmshore, was found lying in the middle of Grane Road just past the Duke of Wellington Hotel.

He was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital where he is still being treated for a dislocated collarbone and concussion.

At this stage it is not known whether or not the rider fell off his bike or was hit by a vehicle.

The incident happened around 9.20pm on Monday, but police have only just released details.

The man was cycling with a friend, who was ahead of him and did not see what had happened.

A red van stopped at the scene for a short time to assist the cyclist but left before police arrived.

PC Peter Brandon said: “The circumstances surrounding this incident and how this man came about his injuries are unclear at this time.

“We are particularly keen to speak with the driver of the red van who stopped at the scene, they could provide crucial information in helping us piece together what has happened and I would urge them to contact us.

“I would also appeal to anybody else who was in the area at the time that saw what happened and hasn’t already spoken with us to come forward.”

Anybody with any information is asked to call police on 08451 25 35 45 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
