A GARDEN designed by an East Lancashire schoolgirl is set to go on display at one of the country’s top shows.

Jamie-Lee Scott, 11, was one of two winners of a competition to design a garden that will created for August’s prestigious Southport Flower Show.

The Read St John’s Primary School pupil’s design will be on show to more than 75,000 visitors.

The winning design was chosen by a panel of judges who said it showed fantastic creativity, and includes the use of vintage kettles, teapots, wellies and other household items, which is the show’s theme for this year.

Jamie-Lee said: “I'm so happy to have won the competition. Our teacher Mrs Casson showed us on the computer what vintage was, and we were able to find things of our own which then went into the design. I can't wait to see it at the show.”

Karen Casson, Jamie-Lee’s teacher, said: “We're delighted for her.

“She is a great pupil, and whatever task you give her she puts in 100 per cent effort so it is great for her to have the reward of winning this competition.”

The school has recently started up a gardening club, and said the prize money they will receive will go towards additions and improvements to the club.

The other winner was 10-year-old Amy Hayward, from Bolton-le-Sands Primary School, in Carnforth.

Both schools will receive £500 from Southport Flower Show towards improvements of their grounds.

n Southport Flower Show runs from August 18 to 21.
