SPRIGHTLY centenarian Elizabeth Kay tucked into her 100th birthday cake as she read her telegram from the Queen.

The former weaver celebrated with two parties for family and friends, including her daughters Sylvia Cliffe and Norma Wyke, at Highfield Hall Nursing Home, in Oakenclough.

Mayor of Rossendale, Coun Gladys Sandiford, also attended the celebrations and presented Elizabeth with a bouquet of flowers.

Born in Salford, Elizabeth also has a son, Clifford, five grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Her daughter Norma said: “She had a wonderful day and was very pleased to receive her card from the Queen.”
