A BOOMING technology company is aiming to treble in size in the next four years after lighting its way to success.

ACDC Lighting Systems will boost its workforce by 10 per cent by the end of the year on the back of sales from the UK and abroad.

Its cold cathode and LED products help power buildings in faraway lands including Dubai, Russia and Hong Kong.

And now bosses at the Barrowford company plan to increase turnover - currently £9million - to £30million by 2015 after carving out a niche as one of the world’s leading lighting manufacturers.

Chief executive Gareth Frankland said: “The cold cathode market is quite quiet at the moment but our LED business is absolutely flying.

“By the end of the year, we will have taken on 10 to 12 new people just to keep up with demand.

“We are a market leader and the business is really busy, so everything is good at the moment.”

ACDC, which employs about 100 at its Gisburn Road HQ, is one of a number of flourishing East Lancashire firms that is using exports to grow sales as the UK market remains sluggish.

The company has just invested £150,000 in setting up distribution channels in the US and deals have also been struck in China, France and Spain.

ACDC’s forays into global markets mean exports now account for 60 per cent of turnover.

However, Mr Frankland, who owns the company with fellow directors, has ruled out following other fast-growing East Lancashire businesses, like Nelson-based Daisy Group and Bglobal in Darwen, on to the stock market.

He said: “We are not done with the company yet. It is generating cash so at the moment there is no need to go to the market.

“The target we are concentrating on is sales of £30million by 2015.”
