A GANG armed with an array of different weapons launched a ‘vicious’ attack on a lone man on a Burnley estate.

Police said the 30-year-old man was set upon by a group of around seven men outside the Brunshaw Avenue shops.

The victim was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital after he suffered lacerations to his arm and a head injury in the brutal assault.

But according to officers, he discharged himself a day later.

Detective Sergeant Nick Hodgeson, of Burnley CID, said: “Some of the men were using weapons in order to assault the single man, but they managed to disperse when police arrived.

“It was a sustained and vicious attack, I think that’s fair to say.

"There is a history between them both and the various families involved.”

Police said the ‘violent scenes’ took place at around 7.45pm on Sunday, when it was still fully light.

Officers are now examining CCTV footage and a leaflet drop has taken place in the area in a bid to encourage peo-ple to come forward with information.

DS Hodgeson said: “I would appeal to anyone who has information relating to the incident on Sunday to come forward.

“This disturbance took place in the street and in broad daylight so it was very visible.

"We are making a number of enquiries and would like members of the public to come forward.”

The attackers were all men, aged between late teens and mid-twenties.

Anyone with information should call Burnley CID on 0845 1 253545 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
