A DARWEN man killed in a ‘high-speed’ horror crash has been described as “one in a million” by his girlfriend.

Jason Kenealy, 32, was a passenger in a red Vauxhall Corsa which burst into flames after colliding with a grey Toyota Corolla Verso in Bolton on Saturday night.

Jason, known as Jay to his friends, was pulled from the wreckage along with 22-year-old Shaun Corran, and the Corsa’s 24-year-old driver, but died later from his injuries at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

In a tribute on behalf of Jason’s family, his girlfriend, who has asked not to be named, said: “Jay was much loved by family and friends with his brilliant sense of humour.

“He always brought a smile to people’s faces. He will be so sadly missed by all who really knew him – truly one in a million.”

The collision happened outside the Bob Smithy Inn in Chorley Old Road, in the Smithills area, at 8.50pm on Saturday.

Shaun Corran, a football coach of Portland Street, Darwen, today remained in hospital with serious but not life-threatening brain injuries.

The driver of the Corsa was receiving treatment for a broken ankle.

He has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A family of five from Nottinghamshire were travelling in the Toyota.

The mother, 41, is in a stable condition in hospital with deep cuts to her legs.

The 42-year-old father, who was driving, and two children, a 10-year-old girl and seven-year-old boy have been discharged from hospital.

A six-year-old boy, who was also in the car, yesterday remained in hospital were he was being treated for a bruised lung.

Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact the Road Policing Unit at Leigh on 0161 856 7201.
