A MAJOR conference promoting victims’ rights and greater judicial accountability is being held tonight by the parents of a Lancashire murder victim.

Keynote speakers from across the criminal justice system will gather to debate a range of issues which resulted from the death of nurse Jane Clough, who was killed by her former partner last July.

Her parents John and Penny Clough, from Barrowford, have been demanding answers since her shocking murder outside Blackpool’s Victoria Hospital.

Chiefly the couple have lobbied to discover why Jane’s killer, ex-paramedic Jonathan Vass, was freed on bail while still facing rape charges.

And the Cloughs are adamant that Vass should still stand trial for the string of sex offences he was accused of carrying out on their daughter.

Jo Wood, of the Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre in Merseyside and Jean Taylor, from Families Fighting For Justice, who has seen three close relatives killed, will address the Justice for Jane launch.

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson and a senior officer from Lancashire Police are also expected to appear.

And co-ordinators from the national transplant service and midwives from Airedale Hospital have also been invited.

The conference will take place at the De Vere Hotel in Blackpool, from 7pm, and the website www.justiceforjane.co.uk will go online following the gathering.
