THE work of a pioneering East Lancashire youth project, credited with a large drop in crime locally, is to be featured on a national stage this weekend.

The Paul Hunter Foundation youth group in Church is to feature during the annual World Snooker Championships in Sheffield.

It is the fifth anniversary of the last time the popular former Masters champion played at the Crucible and the foundation in his name has gone from strength to strength.

The popular youth club, run by North Lancs Training Group and police community officers, is based at the Cuemaster Snooker Club NLTG’s world snooker coach, Chris Lovell said: “The main objective of the Paul Hunter Foundation is to provide free snooker, to get disadvantaged children off the streets.”

The foundation was established in 2006 in memory of Paul who died from cancer just before his 28th birthday.
