CALLS have been made for a bigger police presence in Barnoldswick town centre following two violent incidents.
In the most recent case, a 17-year-old was stabbed in the neck with a broken bottle at around midnight on Friday, April 8.
He had been walking in St James Square, close to Peking House takeaway during a night out when the incident happened.
The teenager suffered a deep cut on his neck which required stitches.
In a separate incident in January, a man was left fighting for his life after being knocked to the ground in a fight in Church Street.
Town councillor Jenny Purcell said: “I would like to see a bigger police presence in the town centre at weekends because the Chamber of Trade is working hard to improve the area.”
Inspector for Pendle Phil Davies said: “We are aware of a couple of incidents in licensed premises, including one serious wounding.
“As a result we have met with our partners at Pendle Council, we are looking at licensing measures and there have been increased patrols in the area.
They have charged a 24-year-old Barnoldswick man with wounding with intent. He appeared before Burnley magistrates on Monday.
