A MAN has been arrested in connection with an attack which left a 22-year-old in a coma.

Police said that Ryan Livesey's condition is 'deteriorating' in hospital after the serious assault in Paradise Lane, Blackburn, on Friday night.

Detectives have now arrested a 24-year-old on suspicion of attempted murder. He is in custody and is being questioned.

Mr Livesey is being treated in Royal Preston Hospital for serious head injuries.

Detective Superintendent Neil Esseen said: "We now know that Ryan was assaulted around 11pm on Friday night and was captured on CCTV walking from the town centre to Paradise Lane with another man prior to his assault.

"We believe it is highly likely that this man is known to Ryan and it is vital that we speak with him and all of Ryan's friends and associates.

"I would therefore urge anybody that knows Ryan or with any information that could assist with our investigation to contact police as soon as possible."
