A CONVENIENCE store in Burnley has been named as one of the best in the country by trade magazines Convenience Store and The Grocer.

The SPAR store in Pike Hill, Burnley has been named Best Multiple Store of the Year at the Convenience Retail Awards.

The store impressed judges so much it also received the Zero Tolerance Award for its crime prevention work.

The judges commented on the store’s high standards and product range as well as the dedication and enthusiasm of the manager and the staff, with a community noticeboard and in-store community champion.

Store manager James Ratcliffe travelled to London to accept the award.

He said: “It was a real shock and to be recognised by our peers in the industry makes us even more proud.”

Despite the opening of a new Tesco nearby, the store has enjoyed an uplift in sales year-on-year, he said.
