Man questioned on attempted murder charge in Clayton-le-Moors

Paramedics were called to a house in Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors, at 6am yesterday following the attack on Carrie Dyer.

Soon after her husband, Adam Dyer, 23, was then involved in a crash heading towards Blackpool - where he is originally from - at the junction of M6 and M55.

Mrs Dyer, 27, was taken to hospital with ‘cuts and bruises’ to her head, which police said appeared to be stab wounds.

Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Mr Dyer lost control of his car close to junction 32 and hit the central reservation barrier.

He was treated at Royal Preston Hospital for minor cuts and a wrist injury and arrested in connection with the attack and on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs.

Police said a knife was involved in the assault.

Local residents said the couple, who have two young daughters under the age of three, were ‘normal and happy’ and were shocked to learn of the incident.

Neighbours Mark Johnson, 32, and his wife Emma said the couple seemed like a ‘really nice family’ and that there had been no trouble at the address in the past.

A next door neighbour of the Dyers, who did not want to be named, said she had heard a furious row at 5.25am which had woken her up.

She said: “I heard Carrie screaming and shouting at Adam, but I didn’t hear him.

“It came through the walls, which I’ve never heard before. Then there was banging and it all went quiet.

“I was just thinking about ringing the police because I was worried, then they showed up at about 6am.

“They are a lovely couple, very nice and this has really shocked me. I just hope they are all right.”

Detectives at Accrington CID will now investigate what the motive for the incident was.

Mr Dyer is a former worker at B&M Bargains in Accrington and Blackburn.

Neighbours said he had been training to go into the Army.

Police were due to interview him last night.

Mrs Dyer has now been discharged from hospital.
