BRENDA Musgrove is not the kind of person who takes setbacks lying down.

In less than a year the grandmother-of-four from Accrington has fought two cancers, ovarian and cervical, and had a hysterectomy.

Brenda, 58, has just finished radiotherapy and is waiting to find out whether the cancers have been defeated.

But when the Lancashire Telegraph launched its £125,000 Raise The Roof appeal to replace the roof at East Lancashire Hospice’s inpatients unit, Brenda was determined to get involved.

She visits the day therapy unit twice a week, taking part in exercise and relaxation sessions, chatting with friends and enjoying crafts.

She said: “I struggle but I've got a strong personality and I keep going. I'm a fighter.

“This is a fantastic place. If I couldn’t come here two days a week I would be in a six foot box now.

“It’s a lifeline, they do such stunning work and the staff here are unbelievable.

Brenda has put her experience as a Shopmobility fund raiser to good use, organising a series of bucket collections and sales across her home town.

She will lead a stall at Accrington Market on April 30, with a tombola including prizes donated by Pasco Sav hairdressers and Fresh Carpets in Whalley Road, and on May 6 and 7 will join a team collecting in Broadway.
