A 28-YEAR-OLD woman who jumped from a burning bedroom has appeared in court charged with arson with intent to endanger the lives of members of her family.

Stacey Devitt broke her ankle when she jumped 15 feet from the bedroom window, leaving behind seven other people.

They included her 62-year-old mother, a six-month-old baby boy and a six-year-old child.

The other occupants of the house in Ivinson Road, Darwen, all managed to escape as Devitt’s 18 year old brother tried to fight the blaze.

He was eventually brought out by firefighters and was treated for smoke inhalation.

Devitt, of Ivinson Road, was arrested in hospital where she was being treated for a broken ankle.

She has now been charged with arson with intent to endanger life and the alternative of arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered.

She was sent in custody to Preston Crown Court.
