BUSINESSES are being urged to take part in an initiative launched in East Lancashire.

More than 1,200 16 to 24 year olds in Blackburn with Darwen who claim Jobseekers’ Allowance will be offered work experience placements for up to eight weeks in a bid to get back into work and boost their confidence.

Ministers want firms to come forward and offer to take on unemployed young people for the scheme.

Employment minister Chris Grayling said: “Work experience is an excellent way for young people to gain the practical experience and showcase their talents, which can really give you the edge in a tough jobs market.”

“Our new work experience scheme will give young people valuable experience of working in a business for up to two months and we've also just announced additional apprenticeships."
