CHARITY campaigners whose families have been devastated by cancer are arranging a giant fundraiser.

Nineteen-year-old Daisy Eve’s mother and aunts have all endured battles with the disease.

And her friend and fellow organiser Neni Fleming is also helping her mother Linda Wright, from Accrington, with her own cancer fight.

The Barrowford pair’s experiences have inspired them to arrange a charity bash for May 18 in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Barnoldswick and Earby Bosom Friends and Pendleside Hospice.

Daisy, who is being helped by sister Lizzie, said: “Cancer is horrible and despite all the work being done it can still mean a death sentence.

“We are organising this event to raise money for research as we are really hopeful scientists are close to finding a cure.

“I have been brought up knowing about cancer and the effect it can have. Everyone in my family regularly checks for lumps as it is vital to find the disease early.

“My family are fighters and we tackle everything together. For us we have found the key to continue life as normal and be strong for each other.

“We are hoping this event will not only raise awareness of cancer, but show people that it can be beaten.

“We are trying to gain the support of the whole community. We want to drum up as much support as possible and businesses have been great in donating raffle prizes.”

Last year Daisy’s mum Eileen Eve, together with her sisters Maxine Betts and Jackie Robinson, were the VIP starters for Burnley’s annual Race for Life cancer fundraiser.

Each has the BRAC2 cancer gene, which killed their mother Marlene Hartley in 1994. Eileen and Jackie are in remission and Maxine had breast removal and reconstructive surgery, in a bid to avoid the condition.

Another aunt, Margaret Khan, sadly lost her cancer struggle earlier this year and Daisy’s grandfather John Eve was claimed by lung cancer in 2000.

Neni, 29, has also lost her uncle, Kenneth Hill, in July 2009, and Harry Denton, last August, to cancer.

“Initially we were aiming for around £1,000, but it looks as though we will be able to reach that fairly quickly.

“So far people have been great. We have collected lots of auction prizes and been offered a free venue and the services of a popular local band for free,” added Daisy, who works as a recruiter for cosmetics giant Avon.

Her fellow collectors have also pitched in with raffle and draw prizes.

The event will be held at David Street WMC, Barrowford. To make a donation or to help with raffle prizes, call Daisy on 01282 611856, or e-mail her at daisy.eve@hotmail.co.uk
