A CARJACKER is being hunted after a man forced his way in to a car and threatened the driver.

Police said the man got in the passenger seat of the silver Lexus as it stopped at a junction.

The robber threatened the driver and ordered him to hand over his wallet before making him drive off while still in the car.

Detectives said that the 34-year-old driver had just finished work before the incident at 9pm in the Audley Range area of Blackburn.

He was able to flee the car at a junction further down the road after grabbing the keys from the ignition when he came to a halt.

He alerted a group of people nearby and the stocky robber fled from the car.

Det Insp Mark Winstanley said the carjacking incident was highly unusual in Blackburn.

He said: “Thankfully the driver was not injured but it was a very unusual incident.

“There were no weapons involved but the threats were serious enough to leave the victim very shaken.

“At this stage it is not known what the offender’s intentions were. He approached the car when it was stationary and has got in to the passenger side.

“He has then made verbal threats to the victim and forced him to hand over his wallet.

“He then ordered the victim to drive them away from the area.”

Mr Winstanley said the attacker, who was wearing shalwar kameez robes, could be a local or someone who had travelled to the area, possibly to visit a mosque.

The incident on Wednesday night began in William Hopwood Street and ended in nearby Audley Lane.
