TWO men are in hospital after the stolen car they were driving crashed into six parked cars in Burnley this morning.

Police said the Honda Civic was being driven away from the scene of a burglary in Ladbrooke Grove at 1am when it smashed into the vehicles in Manchester Road.

Fire crews had to cut the 20-year-old driver out of the Honda. He had a broken leg.

His passenger, a 21-year-old also had to be freed by firefighters. He had bruising.

Officers said cars were strewn across the road, near the junction of Glen View Road, when they arrived at the scene.

Det Insp Stuart Dixon, who is leading the investigation, said the burglary was reported to police at around 12.25am and the collision took place around 15 minutes later.

"I think they have come down Manchester Road, from the Crown Point Road area," said Mr Dixon.

"It is fair to say from our investigation that the Civic was travelling at high speed down the road towards Manchester."

The men, who are both from Burnley, are now being treated in Royal Blackburn Hospital and are under arrest.

Four others, a 16-year-old girl, 21-year-old man, 36-year-old man and 18-year-old woman have all been arrested in connection with the initial burglary.
