A DARWEN tradesman is in the running to be named Britain’s top tradesman and win a £27,000 van.

Plastics fabricator Michael Waring, of Lady Close, has 25 years experience having begun his training at 16, and now works for Accrington-based G & A Plastics.

Recently he was responsible for installing pipe work for the dialysis machines in the Intensive Care Unit of Wrexham Hospital.

Michael said: “I must admit, it was an unnerving task, but the huge sense of achievement when it was completed far outweighed the difficulties we encountered.

“We received high praise from the head nurse and management on how we conducted our work, adhered to clean room standards and the care and sensitivity which we had shown.”

Entries to the competition, run by Screwfix, close on April 17.

The winner is allowed to chose a Ford van of his choice up to the value of £27,000.
