AEROSPACE giant Rolls-Royce has bagged a £315million contract with Norwegian Airlines.

The firm will supply Trent 1000 engines for Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft and also offer its TotalCare service.

It means 21 airlines have chosen Trent 1000 engine.

The fan blades for the engines are manufactured at Rolls’ Barnoldswick plant, where 1,000 people work.

Dan Pedley, Rolls-Royce’s vice president for European customer business, said: “This order begins what I firmly believe will be a very strong partnership between Rolls-Royce and Norwegian.”

Rolls also yesterday formally announced its offer to shareholders of German engineering firm Tognum AG.

The British company wants to team up with German giant Daimler, owner of Mercedes, to create a ‘global lead’ in power systems.
