Yobs who dragged parked cars out into the road in Darwen are being hunted by police.

Officers said there was a spate of late-night incidents and CCTV in the area has now been stepped up.

The incidents are being treated as alcohol-fuelled ‘pranks’.

Police have received four reports from concerned residents about cars having been dragged from the kerbside into the centre of the road.

The latest incident happened overnight between March 30 and 31 in Lyndhurst Road when a green Citroen was moved into the road.

This followed a further incident on Lyndhurst Road and two similar incidents on Avondale Road.

Police inquiries continue and additional CCTV cameras have been put up in the area to identify the people responsible.

PCSO Chris Williams said: “Moving vehicles in this way is clearly dangerous, not only for the people who are doing it but for other road users.

“We suspect those responsible are from the local area, perhaps a group of teenagers that have been seen in the area recently or someone who has had one to many at the pub and are moving the cars as a practical joke on their way home.

“I would like to warn these people however that whilst they may find it funny, they are committing an offence under the Road Traffic Act and putting members of the public in danger in this way is taken very seriously.”
