THE family of murdered Nelson mum Debra Walsh today described her tragic death as “unimaginable”.

Debra, also known as “Debbie”, to her friends was found beaten to death in her Norfolk Street home on Monday.

This picture shows Debra on her wedding day, to former partner Damian Smith, of Harvey Street, Nelson.

Her family, including Damian and their four-year-old son Luke, said in a statement: “We are deeply shocked and devastated by the loss of Debra who was not only a loving daughter and wife, but also a wonderful mother to her four year old son.

“What happened to Debra is unimaginable and we are finding it difficult to take in what has happened, we can only hope that justice will be done.

“We would now request that we are left alone to grieve in private as we try to come to terms with our loss.”

Police visited Debra’s first floor flat after they received a call on Monday from a concerned friend who was unable to reach her.

They found her body with severe head and facial injuries shortly after 3pm in the two-bed flat she had only been renting for one month.

A single bunch of pink roses has been left outside her home which is still sealed off by police and crime scene investigators who have spent the last three days gathering evidence.

Carl Field, 33, of St Philip’s Street, Bradley, has been charged with murder.

He was remanded in custody at Burnley Magistrates’ Court yesterday and is due to reappear at Preston Crown Court today for a preliminary hearing.
