PLANS to overhaul parking provision in Nelson town centre have been unveiled.

The new car park on the former Palace Bingo Hall site provides 30 extra spaces.

Town hall bosses want to name it Holme Street Car Park and introduce a short-stay disc-controlled system, to attract people to the neglected area.

But under the scheme, the existing 22-space short-stay disc-controlled car park in New Brown Street would be made long-stay, with permits sold to workers in the The Ace Centre, Cross Street.

But County Councillor George Adam questioned the plans: “At the moment the parking situation is adequate but only if people use the multi-storey car park at Pendle Rise.

"The problem is that people don’t want to use that car park because there are so many potholes, it’s easy to wreck your car going up there."

The meeting takes place at Nelson Town Hall, at 7pm on Monday.
