A THUG who left a police sergeant in ‘excruciating pain’ after sinking his teeth into him when he was being arrested has been jailed for a year.

Victim Sergeant Andy Horne had to press his emergency button for help after binge drinker Lee Foster got him on the floor, was struggling and tried to punch him.

Foster, 22, who was on licence from a 42-month jail term for robbery, had been parva sprayed without effect after telling officers: “It’s going to take more of you to arrest me. I have just got out of prison and I am not going back.”

Burnley Crown Court heard Sergeant Horne had to go to hospital and have a tetanus injection and give blood samples.

He said in more than eight years as a police officer it was the most violent attack he had ever been subjected to and the first time he had felt so much fear he pressed his emergency button.

The hearing was told police had tried to detain Foster at a house after he headbutted a man and kicked and pushed him.

Foster was later questioned over the violence, made no comment, but did say he had drunk more than a litre of vodka and couldn’t remember what had gone on.

The defendant, of Disraeli Street, Burnley, admitted assault by beating and assault causing actual bodily harm, last November and had been committed for sentence by magistrates.

Mercedeh Jabbari, prosecuting, said even after Foster was cuffed he was so out of control he was also put in leg restraints.

He continued to lash out and had to be carried to the police vehicle. The defendant had 44 previous convictions.

Katie Jones, for Foster, said he was very remorseful. He had no memory of what he did because of the ‘ridiculous’ amount of alcohol he had had, but was horrified and accepted biting the officer was horrendous.

The barrister said: “He understands the officer will have been worried he might have caught some disease from the defendant.”
