A DARWEN chef is aiming to prove he is hot stuff in the kitchen to impress tourism chiefs.

Dominic Taylor, 21, began as a commis chef at the MJ’s restaurant at the Whitehall Hotel 18 months ago.

On March 24 he will take over the Taste Lancashire Quality award-winning restaurant's kitchen when members of the Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board arrive to sample his menu.

The Lancashire Hotshot programme challenges 10 young chefs from across the county to devise and design, plan, cost and order a three course menu for £20 per person.

He said: “I am enjoying my time here at MJ’s and am delighted that I was involved on the evening we received our Taste Lancashire Highest Quality award.

“The award and the Lancashire Hotshot event will enable me to contribute to the ongoing plans for MJ’s and our aim to establish the restaurant as a premier dining venue for the area.

“Ultimately I would like to lead my own team. Who knows, that may be here at MJ’s.”

He added: “I’m inspired by the wealth of produce that we have on our doorstep and am keen to help raise the profile of the Pennine Lancashire dining scene.”

His menu includes cured Ribble Valley trout, beer braised shin of beef, Lancashire cheeses and a cream tea.

To sample the menu, call MJ’s on 01254 704986 to book.
