A TAXI driver was the subject of a suspected five-on-one attack in a row at a rank in Burnley.

Police have appealed for witnesses after the attack at the corner of Paythorne Avenue and Brunshaw Avenue on February 1, around 12.20pm.

The alleged attackers had followed the 43-year-old Hackney cab driver from the rank at Burnley bus station.

Five Burnley men aged 22, 26, 32, 32 and 49 have been arrested on suspicion of assault.

All are on bail pending further enquires.

PC Kirsty Brooker from Burnley Police said: "We are still trying to establish the full circumstances around what has happened but this offence took place on a busy street in broad daylight so people will have witnessed it.

"The victim received considerable injuries including bruising to his face and is still in pain two weeks after the incident."
