TWO men who stole a ring from a Burnley jewellers and assaulted a shop assistant in ‘some scuffling’ on the way out are both behind bars.

Burnley Crown Court heard how Nigel Canning, 41, and Dale Perry, 31, had originally been charged with robbery after the incident at Ernest Jones.

They admitted theft and common assault, last August 29.

Perry, a drug addict with a long record, also pleaded guilty to a string of other offences and was jailed for a total of 35 months.

He admitted dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, no insurance and possessing cannabis.

The defendant, of Springfield Bank, Burnley, was also banned from driving for two years and must take an extended re-test.

Canning, of Lyndhurst Road, Burnley, was locked up for 14 months.
